Bend forming

Bend forming is the umbrella term for edge-turning, swing-bending, roll-bending and strengthening of sheet metal, as, for instance, the beading of sheet metal. For bend forming, the bend edges are subjected to very high stresses, especially when bending must be carried out to 180° for the preparation of the fold. It is important to pay attention to the rolling direction. In the manufacture of the metal sheet in the rolling mill, the crystallites of the raw material are stretched by the rolling pressure in the direction of movement of the slab. In this direction, the metal sheet has the greatest strength. When the metal sheets are bent, the edge bent should be as perpendicular as possible to the rolling direction. If this is not possible, the bending radius must be increased.
