Grinding
Grinding with a rotary tool is a metal-cutting production operation with multi-edged tools whose geometrically unspecific cutting edges are formed from a large number of bound abrasive grits of natural or synthetic origin and separate the material at high speed (up to 200m/s), usually with non-continuous contact between workpiece and abrasive grits. The cutting edges are not constantly engaged while grinding is in progress and, in relation to a medium-sized abrasive granule, only penetrate the surface of the material to a slight extent. This changes and improves the surface, shape and dimensional accuracy. For grinding, tool costs are influenced to a great degree by the high rate of wear of the grinding wheels.
