Stamping

Stamping technology is used for stamping out or embossing shaped parts from various materials (sheet-metal, cardboard, textiles, etc.) on a press with special cutting tools. The upper tool (upper die, punching tool) has the inside shape and the lower tool (die-plate) a corresponding opening. This separating operation is also known as cutting or shearing. Shearing is certainly the most important operation in stamping technology today. The frequent use of a simple tool for cutting out complex sheet-metal parts is usually known on the shop floor as nibbling.
